Monday Fun Day! (4/9/2012 Edition)

Welcome to National Library Week 2012 (#nlw12)! This calls for cupcakes, confetti, and, say, a trip to the library!

- Tomorrow is Library Journal's Spring Adult Book Buzz (#ljadultbuzz). It's also my first webinar as a presenter, so I'm nervous and need your support. Sign up now!

- AMONG OTHERS, Jo Walton's magical semi-memoir and one of my 2011 Book Club Picks with a Touch of Magic, is a finalist for the 2012 Hugo Award for Best Novel! And yes, it is also a finalist for the Nebula Award for Best Novel! Are you convinced, yet?!

See all of the 2012 Hugo Award finalists on Tor.com.

- One of our favorite librarian book bloggers, the lovely Lesa Holstine, spent a very full, magical day with our favorite international men of mystery (writing), Brad Parks!

"Brad told us libraries meant a lot to him as a kid. He wasn't the best student, but he always had a library card."

Read all about Lesa's adventures with Brad on her blog.

Wednesday Fun Day! (8/17/2011 Edition)

My friends, Hawaii was a dream come true! Just look how happy I was at my underwater tea party. I spent 90% of my time on the beach, eating pineapple, reading great books, and working on my sunburn. I'm also pretty sure I saw a turtle.

During my absence some serious shenanigans were afoot:

Talia fell into deep despair over my absence and caught THE FLU! Don't worry; she made a full recovery in time for my return. I felt horrible for her until I realized she totally spilled the beans on the top secret three armed dino project. Now that the dinos are out of the bag, I'll make sure to keep you updated on all of our 2012 YA business.

The 2011 PEN Literary Award winners were announced and we have a few favorites on the list: Essays from the Nick of Time: Reflections and Refutations, which won the PEN/Diamonstein-Spielvogel Award for the Art of the Essay, and Texas Tough: The Rise of America’s Prison Empire, which won the PEN/John Kenneth Galbraith Award for Nonfiction. There were quite a few exceptional runners-up on the list from Farrar, Straus and Giroux, as well.

It turns out HBO likes Tom Perrotta's post-Rapture novel, THE LEFTOVERS, almost as much as the EarlyWord Galley Chat crew because they're adapting the novel into a tv show! See details here.

We'll be announcing the winner of THE OMEN MACHINE Awesome Stuff Giveaway this Friday, so check the site and your email!

And finally, tomorrow I'll be posting the beachy stuff contest I promised you guys in return for being good while I was gone.

We Love Lesa.

We Love Lesa.

We love all librarians equally. Except for the ones that we especially love. Like Lesa Holstine? Why? because she knows that the way into our hearts, and an endless supply of galleys, is talking about our books. But she went above and beyond a normal blog post with this amazing video extravaganza.

Thank you, Lesa!
